Ballroom dances have grown popular in the course of the years in both aspects of recreation and competition. The two main dances that make up ballroom dancing are The American and the international standard dance. The global ballroom dances have earned their place in many people’s hearts. Ballroom dance is an art designed not only to entertain but to send a particular message. The types of dances included in ballroom dancing range from the waltz, Viennese waltz to the foxtrot ,tango among others. Having information on the various types of ballroom dances will ease the task of selecting the most preferable for a person.
The waltz is basically a dance that is devoid of any dramatic movements. It is characterized by moving along a line of dance. Taking a step, a slide and a three quarter step with rise and fall movements form the basics of the dance. The dancers’ shoulders should be moved smoothly parallel with the floor. The goal is to lengthen each step taken. The first step see the dancers step on their heels it goes on to the ball of the feet in the second step the third step sees the dances elevate their toes. The end of the third step should see the dances restore their feet to their normal position.
The Viennese waltz is classical and features rotational movements. The partners rotate on the floor while revolving around each other. The acceleration applied in this dance beats the one in the classical waltz. There is a popular version of it for social events as it is basically not strenuous and can be effected with ease. It is performed in sweeping turns and graceful movements around the ground presenting a picture of simplicity and elegance.
The foxtrot dance is characterized by walking steps and side steps. Long steps alongside the rise and fall motion present in the waltz are incorporated in a more subtle manner. The line of dance is shared from the waltz with the exception of the timing involved. The steps may be quickened or slowed utilizing a beat or two in that order.
People have been more receptive to the tango. This factor may have been contributed by its ability to exhibit romantic tendancies. The presence of both parties of the opposite sex is necessitated. There are several types of the tango dance. Depending on the kind, they may be danced in an open or closed embrace. The closed embrace features close touch of the chest or hip area while the open embrace sees the partners enjoy the dance while maintaining their personal space. The ballroom dance serves to pass messages of emotions that are not voiced .
